Forecasters Issue Flood Watch for Vermont and Predict Winds Topping 50MPH Thursday Evening into Friday
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is preparing to respond to severe weather forecasted for Thursday night and Friday, with meteorologists calling for up to three inches of rain and winds topping 50MPH in Vermont. Winds are expected to kick in Thursday evening. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Vermont starting Thursday at 11pm. Scattered outages are possible with this combination of weather.
“We track multiple forecasts and will respond to possible outages as quickly and as safely as we can. The ground will be saturated with all of that rain, so the wind could possibly do more damage to trees and lines,” said Mike Burke, GMP’s Chief Field Operations Executive. “We’re reminding customers to be alert if they have to be outside during the storm, to not drive over water-covered roads, and to stay away from any downed lines or trees.”
GMP is urging safety, as the weather will be starting to intensify, just as many families and children will be out Trick-or-Treating. Customers can call 888-835-4672 to report outages, and should call 911 for a medical emergency.
