GMP Partners with Customers in Bethel and Essex for EVenture Ride and Drive Events
During Drive Electric Week, Check Out Electric Vehicles Up Close Up Saturday in Bethel and Sunday in Essex
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power (GMP) is partnering with local energy committees in Bethel and Essex to invite customers to check out electric vehicles at EVenture Ride and Drive events in Bethel on Saturday and in Essex on Sunday. EV drivers will gather in Bethel on Saturday to kick off the event there.
“We are so excited to partner with GMP, and Drive Electric week is the perfect time to check out electric vehicles and learn how easy it is to switch away from fossil fuel. This event is one of four celebrations in Vermont, and one of 211 events around the world registered for the 11th annual National Drive Electric Week,” said Nicole Cyr of the Bethel Energy Committee. “Our EV event coincides with the Bethel Forward Festival, so it is a great community celebration that helps local businesses, too.”
GMP is visiting communities across the state with EVenture Ride and Drive events, which provide an opportunity for customers to talk with EV drivers and GMP experts in a no-pressure environment, ask questions, and learn about the benefits of electric vehicles – from the financial and carbon savings you get when you switch to driving electric, to the zippy ride that a battery-powered car offers on the road.
Vermont’s top source of carbon pollution is driving with fossil fuel, so switching to an electric vehicle is the biggest single step Vermonters can take to help fight climate change, as GMP’s energy supply is 100 percent carbon free and Vermont has the cleanest electric supply in the country.
“GMP makes it simple for customers to drive electric with up to $2,500 in rebates and a free Level 2 car charger and discount charging rates, and our EVenture Ride and Drive events are great ways to check out EVs and how driving electric can fit into your life,” said GMP Vice President Kristin Carlson. “Vermonters are ready to drive electric and learn firsthand how making the switch away from fossil fuel not only reduces carbon emissions, but it also saves you money. We’re so thrilled to partner with customers and the Bethel and Essex communities to offer these great events this weekend.”
According to the latest report from Energy Action Network, electric vehicles are cheaper to own than fossil-fueled cars because they require less maintenance, and discount charging is less expensive than filling up with gas. The report found that “electric vehicle drivers in rural Vermont stand to save roughly $1,500 during the first year of ownership, and over $21,000 over a 14-year lifetime of the vehicle.”
